Learn Tunisian Crochet July 10 & 24

Tunisian crochet is a needlework technique that borrows elements from both knitting and crochet, creating sort of a fusion of the two techniques. It’s sometimes referred to as afghan crochet, afghan stitch, tricot crochet, crochet knit, tunis crochet, or shepherd’s knitting (although other techniques are also sometimes called shepherd’s knitting).

There are pros and cons to Tunisian crochet vs. knitting; J.D. Wolfe offers some thoughts about the subject, and a selection of book ideas.

Jennifer Adair will teach us how to get started with Tunisian crochet in two classes.  Click here for full class schedule and registration information. Classes are filling up…

Can knitting make you healthier?

knitting for health, ewe and company, yarn shop

knitting is good for you

Some research suggests that activities like knitting and crocheting can provide health benefits like lowering blood pressure and stimulating the brain.  Knitting may not do as much for cardiovascular health as, say, 30 minutes on the treadmill, but it could keep your joints limber, lower stress and much more.  For more on the health benefits of knitting, click here.

CBS News did a special report, interviewing knitters about how knitting was so much more than a hobby.  Watch the video here.

We have everything to get yourself in shape at 407 North Main Street in historic downtown Kingston Springs.  Click here for a map and directions or give us a call at 615-952-0110.

Knitters Flock to Opening

knit shop, yarn shop, Kingston Springs, ewe and company

more than yarn

It was a great first day… everyone from master knitters to novices came by for yarn, bags, kits, accessories, patterns, and inspiration.  Troy Berggren dropped off some creative woven-and-felted needle cases to go with her fabulous and funky yarns.  Lise Brown’s whimsical, hand-crafted buttons were snapped up.  Ideas swirled around.  Many of you asked about classes for getting started, or advanced finishing techniques, or specialties like felting.  All of that will happen, and a lot more.  Watch this space (you can subscribe) and Facebook (be a fan) for news and events.  Thanks to everyone for making our first day in business a blaaaaast!

Come see us.  Need directions?  Click here for a map.
